In the last few months there have been lots of rumors on the upcoming release of the next-generation Sony console, the PlayStation 4.
Most of these rumors suggest the Japanese company plans to announce the PlayStation 4 Q1 2013. However, the console is said to hit shelves only next year, though we're still waiting for official word on this one.
Well, it appears that these rumors were pretty accurate as Slashgear reports Sony plans to announce its hotly-anticipated PlayStation 4 console in late February.
Sony has already sent invitations to the media for an event dubbed “Destination PlayStation,” which is set to take place in Scottsdale, Arizona, between February 25-28.
Attendees to this event will be offered a sneak peak to what the company plans to bring on the gaming market in the following months, but they will also be “treated to food, drink, play, and a first look at all the amazing new releases coming from Sony Computer Entertainment America Entertainment in 2013.”
Even though Sony has yet to officially confirm the announcement of the PlayStation 4 console at this event, it would make sense for the Japanese giant to introduce the next-gen console this year if they want to release it in 2014.
Apparently, the PlayStation 4 will be powered by a modified version of AMD’s A10 APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) technology that successfully combines both a CPU and a GPU.
Furthermore, the console's APU will be complemented by either 8GB or 16GB of RAM, along with 256GB of internal memory.
For the time being, it's unclear if the latter will come in the form of a hard disk of as a solid state drive. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
